Swindon Citizens Advice Bureau is starting a new advice service aimed at the over 55s in Swindon.
The team of project advisers can give general advice on a range of problems and aim to specialise in issues that are most relevant to the needs of the over 55s.
The project has been set up to complement the existing service provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau in town with an aim of improving access to advice with a dedicated telephone line, drop in sessions held at different locations throughout the town and a range of community-based initiatives.
As with the existing CAB service, the Over 55s project can provide advice on a wide range of issues including money worries, debt, increasing your income, help applying for benefits housing, employment, and immigration. Our services are free and confidential.
Swindon CAB Project Co-ordinator Caroline Davies-Khan said ‘We also aim to spread the word about the level of financial help available for those over 55. We can check if there is any extra money you could be entitled to receive, for example are you paying too much rent? or too much Council Tax?, are you entitled to a higher pension through pension credit? and should you be receiving extra financial support because of a disability or illness? However our knowledge doesn’t stop there, whatever the problem we aim to help find a solution and if we can’t help we will find you somebody who can.’
The bureau is launching its dedicated advice line for the Over 55’s age group from Tuesday 15 September on 01793 491889. Advice will be available 5 days a week at the following times: Monday – 2pm-4pm, Tuesday – 10am-1p.m, Wednesday – 2pm-4pm, Thursday – 10am-1pm, Friday – 10am-1pm
If you would like to speak to an advisor in person the bureau currently operates a drop-in advice session for anybody aged 55 or over every Thursday from the Council Offices at Wat Tyler House between 10am and 12.30pm. From Tuesday 8 September the bureau will also offer the same drop in service every Tuesday at North Swindon Advice Point, Linden Avenue, Pinehurst, between 10am-12.30pm.
