Nearly seventy Swindon College Media Make-up students showcased their own designs and costumes on the catwalk for their Final Show in June, in the Main Hall at the North Star campus. The show was a sell-out and the packed audience was spellbound by the quality of the work presented on the night, which was themed around‘The Fairground’and ‘Phobias’.
First and second year students on the BTEC National Extended Diploma programme –equivalent to three A levels – worked on their final designs and creations for a number of months and a tremendous amount of attention to detail has gone into their work.
The students use a combination of make-up and prosthetics, model-making, costume design, sewing, wig-making and hair styling skills to create the finished looks.
In total, 36 first year students created individual high-fashion catwalk looks inspired by the funfair theme, showcasing the full range of professional techniques they have learnt throughout their first year.
The 30 second year students presented fantasy looks based on the Phobias theme and produced stunning, edgy creations reflective of the high standards this course’s award-winning students manage to achieve year after year.
Sue Bardwell, course lecturer said: “The students have worked incredibly hard for the last seven weeks preparing for this show and have achieved results that were over and above our expectations. Their ideas and imagination have absolutely wowed us all. They are totally professional and have worked so hard from 8am until 10pm; we are very proud of them.”
“We wish all our second year students the very best in their future careers, many will be progressing on to higher education level study and some will be staying here with us to progress on to our new HND Performing Arts (Production) Media Make-up course, which starts in September.”
There is still time to apply on the Production Arts (Media Make-up) BTEC National Extended Diploma Level 3 course starting this September if you are interested in a career in make-up, wigs and special effects for film, TV, theatre and fashion.
