Radio 1 Big Weekend – Important Information for residents from Swindon Borough Council.
Swindon Borough Council is delighted to be bringing the Radio 1 Big Weekend to Lydiard Park on May 9th & 10th. This exciting event will raise the profile of Swindon and provide a wonderful weekend of live music for local people and visitors to the borough.
There will of course be some local inconvenience leading up to the event and over the weekend itself. The Council is determined to make sure that residents in the area surrounding Lydiard Park suffer the least amount of disruption as possible during this period.
Your local councillors have been contributing to plans for managing traffic and will be distributing a leaflet to homes in the week before the event with more details. For all information and answers to frequently asked questions please visit our special website www.swindonbigweekend.com. This has interactive maps showing neighbourhoods closest to Lydiard Park and it will be updated daily over the next few weeks.
Our main priority is too ensure that residents can move and park freely during the event while restricting a potential influx of cars wishing to park close to Lydiard Park. Temporary parking restrictions to include no waiting and tow away zones are to be introduced for the streets near the park. These restrictions will cover the following areas:
Grange Park, The Prinnels, Lydiard Tregoze, Toothill, Freshbrook, Ramleaze, Eastleaze, Old Shaw, Hillmead, Peatmoor, Nine Elms and Middleaze.
Signs will be erected prior to the Big Weekend giving advance warning on all key routes into the zones. No waiting cones will be placed along the main through routes of the restricted areas and also along some of the estate roads off these routes.
The Council will have eight enforcement officers patrolling the area to provide a visible deterrent to those drivers attempting to park who should be using the designated event parking areas elsewhere in the borough. Removal of vehicles will only occur if they are causing an obstruction or hazard.
There will also be various temporary road closures, all designed to cause the least amount of disruption to residents. We are sure that this will be safe and enjoyable event for everyone and we hope that the measures we are taking will ensure that residents near the event do not have too much disruption.
