In June, 18 pupils from Swindon Academy of Dance will represent Team England at the prestigious Dance World Cup, in the Algarve in Portugal – but they need to raise £10,000 to finance the trip.
Now in its eleventh year the Dance World Cup is like the Olympics of dance, bringing together over 18,000 children and young people aged between 4 and 25, from private, non-state run dance schools and academies across nearly 40 countries.
Describing the event academy principal Sarah Watson said: “The standard is high and the organisers encourage group dances so as many children and young people as possible can participate.”
The competition, which many international dance schools deem to be the best children’s and youth dance competition in the world, will be streamed live over the internet.
Young dancers ready for world cup competition
Sarah added: “Ours are the only dancers within the Swindon area to have been chosen to take part. It’s a great honour and an amazing achievement that reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment to dance by the children and staff.”
The trip will cost £550 per pupil. As well as organising their own fundraising events the academy is appealing for any company that might be interested in sponsoring the troupe to get in touch.
Sarah said: “Any financial support would be greatly appreciated and in recognition any company branding or logos will be incorporated wherever possible on the pupils’ kit and in publicity leading up to and during the event.”
