RWE npower employees in Swindon have been limbering up this week as they prepare to pound the pavements for charity.
More than 100 employees from RWE npower’s offices in Swindon will be undertaking a ten kilometre run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care on Wednesday 28 March. They’ll be racing against each other to try and beat last year’s fundraising target of £16,000. The company’s CEO, Volker Beckers, will also be joining the team out on the track, along with Macmillan’s Head of Corporate Partnerships, Charles Byrne.
Ruth Worton, Charity Manager at RWE npower, said: “This is the second time that we’ve organised a run for Macmillan and it’s great to see more people get involved than ever before. Whatever their ability, everyone has been training really hard and it’s got competitive in the run-up to the event. Macmillan is a charity close to many of our hearts and we can’t wait to get out on the track and start raising money for such a good cause.”
Over the last eight years, RWE npower has raised more than £5 million for Macmillan Cancer Support both through large scale fundraising events like the Swindon 10K run and through their individual efforts from staff who have run marathons and climbed mountains. This year there will be a number of 10K runs taking places at RWE npower offices throughout the UK.
Ruth Worton comments: “We’re proud to have such a long term partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and to have raised more than £5 million for the cause. It’s a charity that is close to home for many of our employees and this race is another example of their passion to make a difference.
“I’d like to wish everyone taking part the best of luck and thank them for their enthusiasm and support for the fantastic work that Macmillan does.”
