Hannah Webb, from Shaw, will celebrate the completion of her final year studying fashion at Leicester De Montfort University by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in August in aid of Childreach International.
Before the 6 day trek, the former Saltway Primary and Greendown student will be working in Tanzania where the Childreach farming programme provides resources for schools to grow their food to feed their pupils.
Everyone taking part in the trip has to raise £2,650, with the majority going directly to the charity’s work.
Commenting on her involvement Hannah said: “Initially I joined up because I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro but as I learned more about Childreach I became more involved in helping out.
“Raising money for people less fortunate than me through pub collections and other events like Battle of the Bands is really rewarding.”
Hannah’s whole family is involved in the fundraising, including her grandmother, who is organising a sponsored over 70s swim.
Describing her current training regime Hannah said: “I’m trying to eat healthily and do lots of walking and hiking. And I’ve given up smoking.”
