The headline acts for this year's Swindon Shuffle now include two local bands with major management, the Alfonz and the Beatbullyz and the rest of the line up is just as impressive.
Running from the 7th August until the 10th the Swindon Shuffle has been a key player in putting the Swindon Music scene on the map and helping to get industry professionals to start looking, now successfully, at the range of Swindon bands.
It all started last year with a view to bring the local music scene together and this year it is dong this even more by adding more venues, more dates, more bands and bringing in the dance and hip hop/funk music scene.
“We wanted to look at expanding the range of music that was on offer and so getting the Beatbullyz to headline on Sunday is great to provide a richer and diverse element to the line up”. Commented Paul Jellings, Organiser of the festival. “We also have teamed up with one of the top club nights Kandifunk to throw an after show party on the Friday, which again has added a new dimension to this year’s festival”, added Paul.
The Swindon Shuffle has been instrumental in helping local bands to up their game and blossom as credible artists. Last year local band the Alfonz, who played in the of the Sunday line-up went on to be the first local unsigned band to sell out the 300 capacity 12Bar venue on their EP launch, have headline a show at the newly refurbished Wyvern theatre and now have been able to sign a management deal with wildlife entertainment (the management behind artic monkeys and Travis to name but a few), that should see them gain even more exposure.
“We had over 1,000 people through the doors across the weekend last year, this year we are expecting more, but also that people will be ensuring they have tickets earlier”, commented Richard Craven (Secretary of the Swindon Shuffle). He added, “Tickets are selling fast this year, so we do recommend that people get theirs early, so they don’t miss out”.
Last year all proceeds from the Swindon Shuffle went to the Prospect@home campaign (£2007!) – an announcement will be made soon regarding the organisations who will benefit from this years festival.
