It’s been three years in the making, but now You Are The Same, the first CD by the Swindon Gospel Choir, has been released.
Pastor Steve Mpofu, of Christendom Pentecostal Church, formed the choir in 2010, with the aim of bringing communities together and promoting cohesion.
It has succeeded as members who are aged 16 to 52 come from different churches in the town, and have roots in countries across Africa: Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland and Nigeria.
The CD features three tracks: I’m Going to March, You Are The Same, and one in Zulu, Sesilindele Thina.
It costs £7 from Rainbow Bookshop or That’s Entertainment in the town centre, or it can be downloaded here.
Steve said the choir were delighted to appear on stage at the Wyvern Theatre last December, alongside the Kentwood Choir, led by Sheila Harrod.
He said: “Sheila came in and helped us a lot. We are so grateful to her for all her support and her experience.”
The choir is a sponsor of the Swindon Foodbank and hopes to contribute a percentage of the proceeds from the CD to the charity.
