Swindon Stitch n Bitch were approached by the Brunel Centre to yarn-bomb the shopping centre for the Flour Festival over the May Bank Holiday, writes Tracey Major.
The group came up with the idea of a knitted garden to run with the theme of the garden, home and food festival.
We yarn-bombed flower pots, a hanging basket, bird table, wheel barrow, plus a table and chair. The ladies of the group spent many hours knitting and crocheting flowers, fruit and veg, birds, pond, gnome and ducks and lots of lovely insects and creatures, plus a lovely little shed.
As well as the garden display the ladies spent many hours knitting all sorts of items to sell over the weekend to raise money for Prospect Hospice. Wool donated by Sewcraft.
The knitted garden will be on display at the Old Town Festival 8 June and 6 July, plus the group will be running workshops to learn to knit and crochet, again all money raised in aid of Propsect.
I too plan to run the Bristol Half Marathon and Great South Run this year and raise funds for Prospect, not sure I could knit and run at the same time though!
If anyone would like to display the garden and help us to raise funds this year please do not hesitate to contact me. Tracey Major – email@example.com
