A month-long programme of activities has been organised by Swindon Libraries and Information Service to prolong the celebrations associated with National Libraries Day.
The festivities are a great chance for people find out more about what their local library has to offer. And everyone who joins Swindon Libraries during February will be entered into a prize draw to win a £25 voucher for a trip with Barnes Coaches.
National Libraries Day is being held on Saturday, 8 February and there will be a host of celebrations taking place in libraries across the town.
A fun packed day is taking place at the Central Library including:
10.30am – 11.30am: Art Journaling FREE Taster Session with Bea Menier. Places are limited so you will need to pre-book. Contact Bea Menier on 01793 694943.
11am – 11.30am: Special Children’s Story time with Colin on guitar. Staff will be reading the winning poem or story of the Write a Story or Poem on the theme of ‘Why do you love your library?’ which is currently running at Central Library (closing date Wednesday 5th February). Also reading extracts from popular children’s books.
12.15pm – 1.30pm: Live acoustic music in the Café with music from Rumour Shed, Mr Love & Justice and Talk in Code.
1.30pm – 3pm: Manga/Comic/Graphic novel swap and quiz in the Headspace area on the 1st Floor.
2pm – 3pm: Pet’s Corner. Meet a staff member from Paradise Pets who will be available to answer pet related queries – and get up close to some of their small furry animals.

Library users can also take a blind date and fall in love with a great new author, genre or hobby throughout February by trying one of the ‘mystery’ books at Covingham, Even Swindon, Highworth, Liden, Moredon, Penhill, Pinetrees and Upper Stratton Libraries.
Other events taking place on National Libraries Day include family history drop-in sessions at Highworth Library and Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library, a Baby Boppers session at North Swindon Library, knitting at Pinetrees Library and a children’s craft session at Liden Library.

Cllr Keith Williams, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Strategic Transport and Leisure who is also responsible for libraries, said: “National Libraries Day is a great initiative so I am delighted we are expanding it to cover the whole of February.
“We are lucky to have so many libraries in Swindon and this celebration is a good way of encouraging people to join and promoting just what local libraries have to offer.”
