Stephen Phillip Barnett, 45, of Derwent Drive, Upper Stratton, Swindon, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Friday 5 July 2013.
In addition to admitting 12 counts of making indecent images of children, four counts of distributing images of children, one count of possession and four of having extreme pornography, Barnett also pleaded guilty to causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Barnett pretended to be a teenage girl and then incited a 15-year-old girl to expose herself on her webcam before threatening to distributing the film to her friends on Facebook.
Detective Constable Clare Sylvester-Wyness from Swindon CID said: “I would like this case to serve as a warning to others about the potential dangers of engaging in conversations with strangers online.
“In this incident, a 15-year-old girl was led to believe she was talking to another female teenager about getting into the modelling industry and was actively encouraged to undress online.
“In fact, she was talking to a 45-year-old predatory paedophile who was manipulating the victim into engaging in sexual activity for his own gratification.
“I would urge anyone who receives messages of a sexual or threatening nature to report them immediately and cut off all communication.
“Sadly, there are more people like Barnett out there who will manipulate and lie in order to get what they want from their unsuspecting victims.”
Anyone who wishes to report any such incident is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
