Andrew Caple will be attempting to climb the Matterhorn in his late grandmother’s memory by fundraising for the Alzheimer’s society, who are leading the fight against dementia related illnesses through research, care and support for dementia sufferers.
The Matterhorn is located in the border between Switzerland and Italy and is primarily a rock climb with some steep sections of snow and ice.
At 14,620 ft the route is a serious undertaking with considerable exposure and the round trip up and down takes about 10- 12 hours climbing.
In order to acclimatise to climbing at altitude Andy will be spending the previous week climbing various routes in the Mont Blanc range in the French Alps.
Andrew has spent the last year planning and training for this challenge, however its difficulty is not to be underestimated.
