Swindon Mela is on – Pass it on
“Bad news travels fast and lasts longer” said Bruce Clarke who was reflecting on what happened when the organisers cancelled the Mela earlier in the year.
But, due to overwhelming public demand the organisers found a way to stage the event a little later in the year than normal. Bruce, one of the unpaid directors of the Swindon Mela not for profit company, says the word needs to get out across the Swindon community to encourage supporters to come along on 14 September.
“Our real problem is that the cancelled message is still out there and despite promotional events people still think its not happening. But it is, which is whey we’ve launched a ‘Swindon Mela’s on – Pass it on’ campaign.
"The event has become a people’s event, last year visitors responded incredibly well to shore up the Mela finances by donating £2 per adult.
"We need everybody to say it out loud: Swindon Mela takes place on Saturday 14 September – pass it on."
The event will feature headline acts in The Bowl concert area, community performances, stalls, health zone activities, a discovery walk, an Indian statue of the Hindu goddess Sariswati, workshops on Tai Chi, South Asian cooking and music, activities for all ages including rides and funfair stalls sari and turban tying, as well as decorating over 100 elephants.
There will also be a bar and coffee stalls, as well as a wide selection of Swindon’s very best Asian food restaurants
