npower is teaming up with South Swindon MP Robert Buckland to provide impartial advice about how Swindon residents could benefit from free energy saving improvements through the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) programme.
In conjunction with one of Mr Buckland’s regular advice surgery sessions on Friday 21 June from 9:30am to 11:00am at the West Swindon Centre, npower has arranged for two independent energy efficiency advisers to be available to find out if they are eligible for free improvements through the Government’s Energy Company Obligation programme, ECO.
Under the new ECO scheme, Swindon residents could be eligible for free home energy saving improvements, such as a new A-rated energy efficient boiler, cavity wall and loft insulation, if they meet certain government-defined criteria. According to the Energy Saving Trust, an A-rated high-efficiency boiler could cut home energy bills by as much as £310 a year and cavity wall insulation could save £140.*
Free improvements through ECO are available to those in receipt of certain benefits who own their own home or rent through a private landlord, householders living in specified postcodes or for people living in houses that are hard to insulate and keep warm.
David Titterton, director of Green Deal and Obligations at npower, said: “There are potentially hundreds of homes across Swindon that could benefit from free energy saving improvements through the ECO scheme, so it is a topic that is of real relevance to residents in the area.
“The independent advisers will be on hand in the morning to speak to any members of the public, regardless of who supplies their energy, offering advice on how energy bills could be reduced and to help people understand more about Government schemes such as ECO and the Green Deal. We’re encouraging any resident that thinks they may be eligible for free energy saving improvements to stop by and find out more.”
Robert Buckland MP said: “I am delighted that Swindon residents are getting the chance to discover how to save energy and save money under this government scheme. I am always trying to make my surgeries as useful as possible, so I would encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of this and come along to the West Swindon District Centre on Friday.”
