New share offer launching on 16 July to help fund solar array near Cricklade
In a groundbreaking partnership between Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Bath & West Community Energy, a new company – Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy (WWCE), will launch a share offer on 16 July to help fund the creation of a solar array next to Chelworth industrial estate, near Cricklade, Wiltshire.
The share offer aims to raise £500,000 to help pay for the solar panels which will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 200 homes. The offer is expected to attract investors in ethical projects – who want to invest in local, low carbon projects – and anyone who wants a return on their investment in these difficult economic times.
WWCE is projected to provide investors with returns of around 7%, plus tax relief for qualifying investors. It will also setup an Environment Fund to support relevant local projects.
Denis Gamberoni, President, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust said: “We feel that our involvement in local renewable energy projects has the potential to make a significant impact towards protecting Wiltshire’s precious wildlife and our vision of a sustainable future. This is a great opportunity for us to make a real contribution to tackling the enormous issue of climate change. Importantly, the fact that WWCE will be owned locally, also means that the financial rewards generated can be kept within the community.”
Award-winning Bath & West Community Energy, will be responsible for the construction and operation of the solar array. Managing director Jeff Kenna says: “Wherever possible, we will involve local businesses in our activities and we are hoping to award the construction contract to a Wiltshire-based company.”
The opportunity to purchase shares at £1 each with a minimum investment of £500 will be available from 16 July to 15 September.
Launch events for those interested in finding out more about WWCE will be held at:
