Performing Arts student Megan O’Sullivan is being given the opportunity of a life time at a major Film Academy in the States.
Megan, from Penhill, decided to apply for the New York Film Academy after hearing good reviews and feedback from other students who went on the Performing Arts trip to New York with New College.
Former student Kerrie Scarff, who was the first person from Swindon to attend the Academy, has been supporting Megan with her decision.
To be in with a chance of getting a place at the Film Academy, Megan attended an audition in London where she had to sing and perform in front of a panel.
Following the audition Megan was ecstatic to find out she had been offered a place for September 2014, also being awarded a talent based scholarship.
She commented: “I am so nervous but excited at the same time. I’ve never been to New York before but I have heard so many great things about it and the Film Academy.
"I’ve really enjoyed my time at New College and my teachers and tutor have been amazing and very supportive of my decision”.
During her time at the Film Academy Megan will learn Jazz, Tap and Ballet along with the opportunity to have private singing lessons. At the end of the course students will create a Musical Theatre Movie.
Megan commented: “It is my absolute dream to go to Drama School and to one day appear in the West End or Broadway.
"Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of funds and I need them to get there. I am fundraising like mad and looking for sponsors but I need all the help I can get.
"I need to raise about £70,000 for housing, living, insurance, a visa, equipment, and travel costs. Any sponsorship would be appreciated”.
Megan will be doing lots of fundraising including a student raffle and a special performance at College to help boost funds.
