Children at Drove Primary School in Swindon town centre are the first in Britiain to have achieved the NCFE accredited radio production certificates for 9 year olds.
Working with Shirley Ludford, manager of the the town’s community radio station Swindon 105.5, six children recorded interviews with personalities including a local MP, a senior representative of the Fire and Rescue Service, a visiting drumming teacher, the school headteacher and other students.

Most of the 20 hour NCFE course was carried out at Drove primary with some visits to Swindon 105.5 where the children also took part in a live radio broadcast with the mayor of Swindon as their guest.
One young student moved abroad before the end of the course, leaving the other five to complete and pass the certificate.
Shirley said: “I’ve worked with teenagers and older people on accredited courses at the radio station, but this is my youngest group to complete the course .
"They responded really well, with support from a very enthusiastic and keen member of Drove staff, Mr Summerson.”
