The culmination of the 2012 Lycetts British Eventing Young Horse Championships at Osberton International Horse Trials at Osberton Park near Worksop saw twenty one year old British Young Rider European team member Tom McEwen’s horse Rehy USA win the Seven year old Young Horse Championship.
The Thoroughbred is owned by Tom himself and John Burt, and was bred by Edna Briscoe in Ireland by the stallion Warcraft (Ack Ack x Became a Lark) out of the mare On the Eve (Eve’s Error x Ardoultgh Lass VII).
Tom, who is based near Chiseldon, commented on the horse: “He is a beautiful mover and coped really well with the atmosphere of the arena; it was a tough enough course for this age and level of horse. He cruised around easily and made the time without using all the gears.
“I would have loved to go to Le Lion for the World Seven year old Championships but to win your own national title on home soil is actually better.”
Anna Bates from title sponsors Lycetts said: “Once again the prestige of the Young Horse Championships has increased and the quality of horses here keeps on improving year on year. Lycetts are proud to be associated with such a popular event and seeing the progression of horses coming up through the ranks.
