Swindon Road Club has been fundraising in support of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance after one of their members suffered serious injuries in a crash on a ride late last summer.
The Air Ambulance was called out to transport the injured rider to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital where he was treated and has since made a full recovery.
With generous support of club members and several local businesses, including Hargroves Cycles, Swindon Cycles, Nationwide, Clock Cleats and Cranks and Optimum Sports Massage Therapy, £925 was raised from refreshments at race promotions and a raffle at the club awards and social night at The King’s Hotel in Old Town.
Mark Chick, secretary, Swindon Road Club said: “We all hope we never need the Air Ambulance, but when we did, we were very glad it was there to carry our injured clubmate swiftly to hospital. We wanted to say a proper thank you by raising funds to help ensure the continued availability of this great service which receives no government funding.”
