25 foot long montage of images illustrate Swindon’s success
The two artists behind the Working Beautifully exhibition have presented Swindon businesses with a tapestry of images depicting working life in the town.
Over 100 enterprises are featured in images created by painter Timothy Cummings and photographer Nigel Hudson.
They appear in a 25 foot long work – The Swindon Enterprise Tapestry – which has been presented to Forward Swindon which helped sponsor the exhibition. It is printed digitally in nine sections which can be displayed as a whole or in parts.
Tim said: “We spent over a year on compiling the exhibition, visiting businesses in the town, capturing the environment where people work, contributing to the success of the town and the economy of this country."
“We were expecting to see just businesses struggling through a recession but what we found was really positive. Almost all the businesses we spoke to were doing really well and almost seemed embarrassed they had not seen a recession.
“Swindon is a vibrant and wonderful place and I think that comes across in the tapestry.”
Forward Swindon marketing officer Julia Falcon said Forward Swindon had helped to set up the project and was pleased to receive the finished tapestry on behalf of the town. "As yet we have no permanent home proposed for it. However, it will be circulating amongst the businesses who took part, starting with BMW. The idea is to eventually agree a permanent place for the artwork to be viewed in a public space: it may be that the montage is transferred to a suitable permanent surface – which could be outside.
"The project has produced such stunning and original work, which so neatly reflects Swindon’s hard working character. The artists have done a superb job."
