The Savernake Sizzler Sportive is debuting this year on July 21, in aid of Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
It is being organised by GiveItSome, the new Swindon-based project run by local father and daughter team, Paul Greenman (50) from Freshbrook, and Penny Pauw (27) from Gorse Hill.
Competitors can choose to ride 90, 65 or 35 miles through some of Wiltshire’s most stunning landscapes, passing quaint villages along the way as well as the Kennet and Avon canal.
The routes promise a fantastic mix of challenging hilly, winding lanes and straight, fast sections.
Local cycle enthusiast Paul Greenman said: “Savernake Sizzler is a great opportunity to fundraise for a worthy cause as well as brilliant motivation for cyclists to get out in the fresh air and enjoy our beautiful countryside. There will hopefully be some personal achievements along the way, with routes to suit all abilities, and of course a chance to meet other like-minded riders from the local area. It’s being held on Sunday 21 July, just outside Marlborough.”
GiveItSome are deliberately keeping entry fees low, enabling participation from as little as £8, to encourage riders to take up the challenge and raise funds for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity. A free t-shirt is on offer for all those raising money specifically for Rainbow Trust.
Rainbow Trust provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. The charity relies on fundraising for 95% of its income so events like this are essential in providing vital support to families when they need it most.
Rainbow Trust’s Head of Fundraising, Emma Haines, says: “We are really grateful to GiveItSome for putting on this fantastic event. It’s going to be a great day raising vital funds for Rainbow Trust and we urge as many people as possible to go along and in doing so help us continue to offer practical support to families facing the most unimaginable circumstances, their child having a life threatening or terminal illness”
There are still sponsorship opportunities available for local companies who would like to get involved. There are also opportunities on the day for relevant promotional stalls offering free samples or services.
