Without the hard work and dedication of volunteers, Swindon’s parks and open spaces wouldn’t be the havens for people and wildlife that they are today – and new volunteers are always welcome.
Swindon’s Volunteer Rangers carry out vital work such as orchard pruning, gardening, surveying wildlife, carrying out maintenance, sharing local knowledge and experience, or simply making people feel safe and welcome in the parks.
Michael Lilley is the Volunteer Coordinator for Swindon Commercial Services, who maintain the parks. He said: “Not only is volunteering a great way to help others, but it can be incredibly rewarding too.
“It’s great for people who want to spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle, and at the same time help the environment and improve the lives of others. For many people the appeal is to spend a few hours doing something completely different.
“Our volunteers are a friendly bunch and are always happy to see new faces and support each other. Volunteer Rangers will get the opportunity to receive training, expand their knowledge or enhance their CV. Best of all, it can be great fun and keep you fit at the same time.”
