Asda Walmart has proposed to Swindon Council that the much enjoyed dancing fountains at North Swindon District Centre could be removed because of the high cost of maintenance and repair.
The water feature, installed in early 2002 cost around £500,000, but Swindon Link has been told that the design and equipment was never up to the job and it was out of action for several months last year.
Abbey Meads ward councillor Justin Tomlinson says Asda Walmart's proposal could upset a lot of people. “Local residents will be extremely disappointed if the fountains were turned off as they have proved extremely popular with families, particularly during the hot weather in the summer.”
Loads of fun at North Swindon. From the April 2002 Link front page, the first time the fountains were featured in any publication
