There will be some changes to several Thamesdown Transport bus routes starting on Monday 1 June.
Service 901, which runs between Groundwell Park & Ride and the town centre, withdrawn on 31 May following Swindon Council's controversial decision to close the Park & Ride site on Cricklade Road.
But a new commuter express bus – Service 12 – is being introduced from Oakhurst, Redhouse, Abbey Meads and St Andrew’s Ridge into the town centre. It will run every 30 minutes during peak periods on Mondays to Fridays only, and means that for the first time there will be a direct express route into town for North Swindon commuters. It also provides an alternative for people who have hitherto used the Groundwell Park & Ride bus service, which will run for the final time on Saturday 30th May.
Service 11, the service between the Wroughton Park & Ride site and the town centre, is being extended into East Wichel with financial support from Swindon Borough Council, providing the first public transport link into the new Wichelstowe development. Currently only one house is occupied in the area.
Thamesdown MD Paul Jenkins said, “Aas the town’s own local bus company we are pleased to receive feedback from our customers, and use that to tweak or revise our services appropriately. These alterations are in response to changing demand and to feedback that we’ve had from our bus users, as well as to changes in the local infrastructure.”
Revised Monday to Friday timetables will also apply on Service 18 from Haydon Wick to the town centre and on Service 19 from Peatmoor to the Great Western Hospital. The first Service 19 will arrive at the hospital at 7.42am from Monday 1 June onwards.
The 4.45pm Service 21 bus from Penhill to Fleming Way will no longer run, and the 5:20pm bus back to Penhill will in future run at 5.30pm.
An extra Service 28 bus will run at 5.05pm on Mondays to Fridays from Groundwell Industrial Estate to Fleming Way.
A timetable amendment leaflet is available from the Thamesdown Travel Shop in Fleming Way and the new timetables are also on-line at www.thamesdown-transport.co.uk
