The Band of The Life Guards will lead the procession through Swindon Town Centre to launch the Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday 25 June.
From State Investitures, Palace banquets, Royal Ascot and the Lord Mayor’s Show The Band of The Life Guards features at many ceremonies and parades where the pomp and pageantry of our heritage is highlighted by the woven tapestry of military music and State occasions.
There is a whole day planned to celebrate the National Armed Forces Day, which is held across the country on the last Saturday of June every year. This is the third year inSwindon BID Company Ltd has held the event for the town and Chief Executive of the company Simon Jackson thinks this could be the best year yet.
“We’ve always had an excellent turnout for our Armed Forces Day, last year we had the parachute display team and 2009 saw The Imps motorcycle display team with young children riding motorcycles through rings of fire and we’re very excited about the confirmation of The Band of The Life Guards.”
The band will not only lead the Military Parade, but will also perform as a live display at Wharf Green under the Big Screen directly after the Veteran’s Badge Ceremony.
Says Simon, “Normally we have split the events up to create a week of events, but this year it was felt it was important to get everyone together at the same time to celebrate. For that reason we have combined the main events together which include the Military Parade and Service, the Veteran’s Badge Ceremony and finally the Armed Forces Showcase.”
inSwindon still intend to hold the Fly the Flag Ceremony at Wharf Green on Monday 20 June at 10.00am, to mark the official launch of Armed Forces Week.
