Threshold, Swindon’s homeless charity, celebrated a successful year at the end of August with their Annual General Meeting. Successes included the Street Outreach Team who helped 407 people in Swindon last year on 7236 occasions. The Street Outreach Team were formally acknowledged at the AGM with James Derieg being award Threshold’s Employee of the Year and his colleague Tony Niester who, along with Senior Resettlement Worker Deborah Hyde, received a commendation for outstanding commitment to the charity and its work with homeless people.
Threshold’s Chairman Trevor Davies, winner of this years’ Pride of Swindon Award said “Our Street Outreach Team are as important to the organisation as they are within the community itself. They provide a lifeline of advice and support on issues such as housing, finances, health and education to people who are in genuine crisis. We receive a local authority grant towards Street Outreach Service but this is only part of the funding needed and the team rely on fundraising and the generosity of supporters to make up the remaining 50% of the service costs.”
Threshold’s other successes included its ‘Big Issue Vendors’, who in 2010-2011 sold 13,270 copies in Swindon making £11,814 between them. This in turn created an income for Threshold of £1,017 to put back into the charity’s front line services; creating more opportunities for residents to make a change in their lives.
Threshold is currently seeking willing volunteers to be a part of this dynamic organisation and is in the process of creating their Volunteering Strategy. Please contact Linda Page on 01793 524661 or email: email@example.com if you think you have skills you’d like to share.
