This year something unique is starting and you can be part of it! Partnering with Create Studios, Frequency Airborne is a battle of the bands with a difference.
Bands will be played on air, on the Frequency radio show on 107.7 Brunel FM, they will be interviewed and asked to record two acoustic tracks, and then play at the 12 Bar.
There is no escape this is the true test for any band and the prizes are phenomenal.
"We wanted to do a battle of the bands with a difference. There are many BOTBs that go on so we wanted to make ours stand out. We have brought together a whole host of partners to help. SOP promotions will be helping to run the nights at the 12 Bar. Swindonmusic.co.uk will be hosting an online voting system for us and Brunel FM are supporting it not only via the radio show we do, but with on air promotion". Commented Steve Causer from Frequency Magazine.
The winning band will not only be crowned the Airborne band of 2008, but will scoop a prize pool that includes; a 'Complete Studio Package' from Airborne partner Create Studios. This will include 5 days in Create's state-of-the-art Sound Studio working alongside top producer Barry Andrews (ex XTC) (pictured right), through to the production of a finished CD. (Visit www.createstudios.org.uk/soundstudio for more info about the sound studio.)
Airborne sponsor's, Western Computer, Wiltshire's only Apple Premier Reseller will award the winning band with a Mac Book Pro & Logic Studio software, and Media plant will provide the winning band with 1000 copies of their CDs.
"We jumped at the chance to be involved with this. Not only is what the Frequency is doing in Swindon a great support to all art forms but to partner with them in such a venture that will really showcase local bands is something that Create Studios is all about". Commented Stuart Webb, Arts Business & Development Manager, Create Studios. "Offering up our state of the art sound studio as a prize was a simple decision for us as we can really support the local scene in what we have on offer."
9 bands will be picked to go into the event and showcased on air. 3 will be showcased each month, one a week with a round up week. On the final week the three bands will play live at the 12 Bar in Swindon. One band from each group of three will be picked by public vote to take part in the final.
After the initial rounds are over, the winning 3 bands go through to the final round. The gigs at the 12 Bar are on the 29th May, 27th June and the 31st July, with the Final on the 25th September 2008.
It all starts on the 4th May on the Frequency radio show on Brunel FM and submissions to be selected need to be in by the end of March 2008.
