A stunning gala evening of musical theatre.
Tickets still available for Wednesday 25 September, 7.30pm and Thursday 26 September, 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
I went along to the Wyvern Theatre last night not really knowing quite what to expect – but I was in for a real treat!
The cast of 7 singers (3 of whom have played the lead role in Phantom of the Opera – hence the title) and 2 musicians were simply superb.
The powerful voices of the 3 lead males – Matthew Cammelle, Stephen John Davis and Glyn Kerslake – sent tingles down the spine and the incredible high notes reached by leading lady Rebecca Caine had to be heard to be believed.
The other 3 singers were Mandy Watsham Dunstall, Annete Yeo and Alistair Barron all of whom have many musical credits to their names.
Musical director and conductor Anthony Gabriele played grand piano with Laura Anstee on the cello. The amazing sounds they produced from just the two instruments was truly inspiring and perfectly complemented the singing.
The programme of songs from a variety of musicals was interspersed with witty banter from the performers making for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of high class entertainment.
The highlight of the evening for me was the medley from Les Miserables at the end of the first half, in particular the acappella version of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ – musical theatre at its absolute best.
If you like musicals you will love this, so get along to see this fabulous show if you can – you will not be disappointed.
