Manager at The Brunel shopping centre, Tony Wilkes, has announced he will be leaving the centre to take on a new challenge as centre manager at the Princes Quay shopping centre in Hull.
Since joining The Brunel in August 2009, Tony has turned the centre around, raising footfall levels, which had previously suffered a 25% drop, boosting average spend by 59% and reducing the number of empty shops from 25% to just 4%.
Tony’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed – he has a glittering line of accolades acknowledging his work at The Brunel.
In May, Tony was declared the Business Person of the Year 2011 in Newsquest’s Wiltshire Business Awards and in June he was named Large Shopping Centre Manager of the Year at the ‘Oscars’ of the shopping centre management industry, the SCEPTRE Awards.
Tony said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at The Brunel immensely and have been honoured to work alongside such a hard-working team and with proactive, supportive retailers.
“To see such a turnaround in the fortunes of The Brunel has been fantastic, and something that couldn’t have been done without the current team behind me.”
Before joining The Brunel, Tony had been deputy manager of the Pallasades shopping centre in Birmingham, and had run two shopping centres in Derbyshire and two malls in Birmingham.
