Four years after Toothill was earmarked for a £1 million National Lottery Big Local grant, the Partnership Committee responsible for administering the fund is gearing up to take the project to the next stage, and wants to hear from local residents who wish to get involved.
Explaining the story so far chairperson Kareen Boyd said: “A lot of heavy-lifting has been done to get the Big Local programme off the ground. As a result we’re hoping to finally have access to the £1m from the middle of the year.”
“Since last autumn we have been inviting bids from local groups for grants of up to £500 from our Community Chest fund. Awards have already been made to support Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, and to Ideal Films, a youth project running at Toothill Farm.
“There are a further six bids in the pipeline for assessment this spring and we welcome more during the remaining quarters of 2014.
“We are looking for people to help create a buzz about Toothill Big Local. You might run a local group that would benefit from a Community Chest award. Or you might be between employment, or a student, or stay-at-home parent wishing to improve your skill set. Or maybe you are retired and looking to give something back to your community. We would love to hear from you, and welcome you onto the Toothill team.
“The money is for the people of Toothill and can only be put to best use if Toothill people play their part. Whether it’s improving the outdoor environment, maintaining existing or setting up new clubs or societies, or finding ways of learning new things there’s lots to do.”
Look out for posters and leaflets in the area.
