As a patron of the community sports tournament, the Swindon-born golfer, who holds four European titles, was the VIP guest at a special Challenge Swindon – Festival of Sport night at Swindon's Arkell Brewery on Friday 20 April.
David said, "It was really enjoyable seeing where Swindon's beer comes from and reminding myself what it tastes like.
"Challenge Swindon is a great idea and I am pleased that golf is one of the sports on offer. You don't have to be a pro to take part – the tournament is all about trying something new and having a good time."
More than 20 different activities are included in the sporting extravaganza organised by Swindon Borough Council on June 2 and June 3. Basketball, squash, swimming, hockey and football are among the other sports on offer, which will take place at leisure venues across the borough.
Most of the activities are team events and there is something to suit adults of all abilities. For something new, beach volleyball, dragon boat racing, speed climbing and south Asian sport kabbadi are all part of the fun.
Swindon Council chief executive Gavin Jones, who is entering the tennis doubles contest with his predecessor Sir Mike Pitt, said Challenge Swindon night is going to be a fantastic celebration of sport in the town.
Event patron Huw Jarvis, from the Department of Culture, Media & Sport and Tourism Manager, South West Regional Development Agency, spoke about preparations for the 2012 London Olympics and how the whole country is be included events.
Challenge Swindon is sponsored by Arkell's Brewery, Cardinal Health, The Four Pillars Hotel, Triumph International,The New Swindon Company and GWR fm. Red Rocket Design, ESP Colour and Multiscreen Channel are also supporting the sporting extravaganza.
The weekend event will be followed by Get Active Week from June 4 until June 10 where everyone in the town is being encouraged to take part in a vast array of indoor and outdoor sports and recreational activities run by the council, local clubs, schools, businesses and community groups.
