The victim support Witness Service in Swindon is looking for volunteers as it seeks to assist witnesses of crime when they are called to court to give evidence.
The volunteers play a vital role in reassuring witnesses by explaining procedures and being present at trials. They are asked to give at least one day a fortnight and are fully trained. Victim Support pays expenses related to volunteering. The next five day training course takes place in December.
Samantha Smiles, Witness Service manager for Swindon, said: “Volunteers are the life blood of Victim Support and make a huge difference by the support they give to people affected by crime. Their life experience is valued as well as the ability to listen and empathise.”
The closing date for the course is 1 October.
