‘Love and Loss’ – Wednesday 10 October, 1.05pm, Wyvern Theatre
Organ favourites – Saturday 27 October, 7.30pm, Christ Church
Swindon Recital Series is bringing two very different concerts to Swindon during October.
On Wednesday 10 October English National Opera performer Vivien Munday (pictured top), an Australian-born lyric soprano, will present a broad spectrum of music from an English song by Butterworth through the drama of Tchaikovsky to the nightclub atmosphere of Kurt Weill. She will be accompanied by pianist Paul Turner who will also play piano solos by Chopin and Prokofiev.
The ‘King of instruments’ proudly presides over our most important personal and national occasions. On Saturday 27 October Christ Church’s rafters will ring to the sounds of several familiar organ favourites – Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Widor’s Toccata from Symphony No. 5, the Finale from Vierne’s Symphony No. 1 and Boellman’s great Suite Gothique. Swindon’s own Hannah Edmonds (pictured, bottom) will be the organist presenting this powerful programme of familiar favourites.
The Wednesday concert takes place at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon, 1.05-2pm. Tickets for the concert are £5 each. Tea and cake is available before the performance at a cost of £3.50. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre or in advance through the theatre website.
The Saturday concert takes place at Christ Church, Drove Road, Swindon at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door and are priced at £12, (£10 concessions, £2.50 students 15-18 years, accompanied children 14 years and under free).
