STEAM, museum of the Great Western Railway, is on track for some fabulous fun on 6 and 7 October – thanks to the Great Western LEGO Train Show.
The show, a real 'must see' for children and anyone with fond memories of the famous coloured bricks, takes place at STEAM, in Kemble Drive, Swindon.
LEGO displays at the show will include unique working model railways – complete with rolling stock, scenery and stations, along with town and country scenes. New for this year is the LEGO engraving machine so visitors can get some of their own bricks personalised. There is also the chance to work on some stunning mosaics that will be completed over the weekend.
Councillor Justin Tomlinson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Recreation, said: "This is a fantastic event. Whatever your interests, you can't fail to marvel at the detail and sheer hard work that has gone into these impressive and wide-ranging displays. Entry to the show is included in the normal STEAM admission price, so it's a great value day out for all the family."
There will be plenty of hands-on fun for children, including the new LEGO play tables, as well as the many interactive displays at STEAM. Merchandise will be on sale at the LEGO retail stand, alongside some extra special deals and souvenirs at the STEAM shop – perfect for that well-timed Christmas shopping.
Other forthcoming fun events for children include the ever-popular Day Out with Thomas weekend on 20 and 21 October and the Smiley Cats Kidz Club – back with new dates for the October Half-term week.
Swindoncard discounts are available on all admission tickets to STEAM.

Smiley Cats Kidz Club – October Half-Term
Smiley Cats Kidz Club is back at STEAM for the school October Half-Term, on 23, 24 and 25 October, 9.30 am – 1.00 pm. For ages 4-11, Smiley Cats gives parents the peace of mind that comes with knowing the activities are structured and safe. There are circus skills, parachute games, face painting, drama and arts and crafts – something different every day, with all materials included. These sessions cost £11.00 (£8.60 with a Swindoncard) and booking is advisable.
STEAM gives you the chance to experience the sights and sounds of the GWR works at Swindon – famous as the place where many of the best steam locomotives in the world were built – and to hear the stories of the men and women who worked there.
STEAM also brings to life the exploits of Isambard Kingdom Brunel – the flamboyant engineer, and acknowledged genius, behind the creation of the GWR. The museum is owned and managed by Swindon Borough Council.
