Ukebox Jury – the Swindon ukulele band is once again presenting Sunday afternoon ‘Ukuleles In The Park’ performances – at the Town Gardens Bandstand (20 June and 4 July), and for the first time – on the patio at Queen’s Park (15 August).
The band plays a wide variety of good time music: everything from ‘Tiptoe Through The Tulips’ to Rolling Stones songs.
For the first show (20th June) the band is inviting all ukulele players to come along and join in a 20 minute ‘sing and play along’ spot! Song sheets (with chords) are available, and can be downloaded from the web site, www.ukeboxjury.co.uk. They will be easy to play for even absolute beginners, so download the song sheets now, get practising, and make a note of the date – 20 June at the Town Gardens.
Ukebox Jury regularly performs for clubs, house parties, etc., and has played at charity dinners held in the Wyvern Theatre Restaurant.
In addition to the Town Gardens and Queens Park dates, the band is performing at South Cerney Street Fair on 31 May, and Wanborough Show on 21 August.
Ukebox Jury was formed from members of Swindon Ukulele Club, which Richard Bending started in 2006. ‘The club meets weekly, and is open to new members,’ says Richard. ‘Whether you’re an experienced player, a complete beginner, or just interested to know more, you’re welcome to come and see what goes on – even if you don’t yet have a ukulele. You can buy a good starter instrument for about £15 from the local music shops. Its small size, and the fact that the ukulele has only four strings (one for each finger!) make it relatively quick and easy to learn the basics.’
