UTC Swindon has begun sending out joining packs as it prepares to welcome its first student intake in September this year.
UTC Swindon will cater for 600 students aged 14 to 19, providing courses for young people who aspire to a career in engineering. The college will provide opportunities to gain skills valued by employers in the engineering industries.
Writing to the new students, Angela Barker-Dench, the college’s Principal, right, sets out UTC Swindon’s dress code, the Home/College agreement, ICT code of conduct and details of the College induction residential. The pack also includes term dates for academic year 2014/15.
Speaking about the joining pack, Angela Barker-Dench stated, "We’re excited to deliver the next stage to our students who will be joining us in September. This comprehensive joining pack will supply the parents and students with all the vital information needed for the start of term. Keeping the parents informed and up-to-date is something I feel strongly about and as we are getting closer to opening our doors, this pack will do just that and more."
When not in the workshop or taking part in sports, students will follow a formal dress code, consistent with the business environment. For female students, this means a charcoal, black or navy suit or matching separates and a white or pale coloured blouse. Shoes must be formal, dark coloured and low heeled. Male students will also be required to wear smart suits or matching separates in charcoal grey, black or navy blue with formal shoes.
During the first week of term in September 2014, the students will take part in a College induction residential at Oxford Brookes University’s Gypsy Lane Campus in Oxford. This will allow students and staff of UTC Swindon to get to know each other. Students will stay in residential accommodation normally used by Oxford Brookes University students and enjoy a range of activities.
While there is no charge for the accommodation during the College induction residential, UTC Swindon will ask parents and carers for a voluntary contribution towards the cost of coach travel.
