With almost 700 vacancies on its books, Volunteer Centre Swindon can put almost any talent or interest to good use.
If your New Year’s resolution is: ‘I want to do something,’ Get Volunteering Week, from 14 to 19 January, is the ideal time to match your skills, interest and enthusiasm with a request for help. The week will also celebrate the work of volunteers and thank those who already commit their time and effort.
There are countless ways you can get involved, from working in a charity shop or youth clubs, to helping students with English language, delivering fridges for Refurbiz, manning the phones for a bullying helpline or doing your bit for the environment in a multitude of projects across the area.
As well as helping others, volunteering brings benefits to those involved, like meeting new people, having fun and gaining valuable new skills and experience which will look good on any CV.
Volunteer Centre Swindon can also match projects in need of people power with groups of colleagues looking for a challenge: think garden makeover, creating a play area, painting a mural or building a compost bin.
Volunteer Centre staff will be at West Swindon Centre on Wednesday 16 January and in the Brunel Centre on Friday 18 January.
The Volunteer Opportunities’ Bus will also be touring the town during the week. The timetable of stops and lots of other volunteering opportunities at www.empowerswindon.co.uk
