There’s some good news on the horizon for young people aged between 11 and 19 which might help take some of the boredom out of the long summer holidays.
WaggleB.com is a bright, funky and free ‘one-stop-shop’ website, put together by Create Studios and funded by Swindon Borough Council which aims to help find positive things for young people to do.
To celebrate its launch, Create are offering a free, fun competition in which young people are asked to come up with an idea for a 30-second advert to help promote it.
If they win, they’ll get the chance to see their idea turned into a real advert by film industry professionals at Create. The finished piece will be shown on Swindon Big Screen, schools, Youtube and it will also be entered into other film making competitions.
WaggleB allows its users to search for things to do by title, i.e. ‘football’ or ‘dance’, by date, i.e. ‘this weekend’ or location. It means they can plan ahead and come up with things for friends to do during the holidays, find clubs to join, or just take the plunge and try something new when they’re at a loose end.
The website is available to mobile phone users as a downloadable app and even comes with a free fun game in which you jump a cute ‘free-runner’ bee over Swindon’s buildings.
The mobile aspect of the service means that young people can use the service where-ever they are and some fun programming means they can also personalise the appearance of the app to suit their personalities. There’s also a Facebook giving the latest news on what’s happening around town, as well as some exciting and exclusive offers.
The database of activities and providers is growing all the time and Create Studios are encouraging any local businesses who have something to offer this age group to contact them to get their services listed on the site for free.
Cllr Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Culture, said: “Evidence has shown that young people in Swindon have struggled to find out what activities are available to them. WaggleB should help them find a whole host of fun and informative things to do in their spare time.
“The competition sounds like a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what the young people come up with.”
