This year, for National Carers Week, we are asking people to walk a mile to raise awareness for unpaid carers in Swindon.
As the title suggests you could choose to walk the mile in a pair of shoes owned by a carer. Or you could wear your own shoes and think about the impact of being a carer.
The walk will take place on Saturday 14th June 2014 gathering at 10.30am to start at 11am from the Wyvern Theatre. The route will take us through town finishing back at theatre square.
We are looking to get 100 people signed up for the walk, to raise money for Swindon Carers Centre. Once you’ve registered with us, you’ll receive a sponsorship form to get going.
We’re delighted to say Robert Buckland MP and Gavin Jones, Chief Executive of Swindon Borough Council, have already signed up to show their support for carers in Swindon.
Cath Johnston, Chief Executive of Swindon Carers Centre, said: “1 in 8 of us is a carer. How about raising some funds for Swindon Carers Centre, so we can continue to support carers of all ages by providing much needed information, advice and support.
"Join our event on Saturday June 14th and ‘Walk A Mile in My Shoes’ to acknowledge the unstinting dedication
of the 19,500 unpaid carers in Swindon.”
To register for the walk, please contact Sandi Chapman: firstname.lastname@example.org or 01793 531133.
