Plans are coming together for the first ever Swindon Mad March Hare event in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer on 16 March 2008
The project is now in full swing and details are now being put in place by members of the Swindon Twin Peaks walking group. Recruitment of participants will start in November. 10km power walks and runs around Lydiard Park will start from Greendown School in Grange Park. A 5km family fun run and Easter egg hunt in Lydiard is also planned.
Organiser Eunice Salmon said the idea came from Irene Hare a member of Swindon Twin Peaks who undertook several overnight Moonwalk Marathons in London, before she lost her battle with breast cancer. “Irene didn’t let cancer affect her life and was always finding ways to raise money. She was a very determined, inspirational, lovely lady; she was always keen to see a walk for Breakthrough take place in Swindon.
"Colleagues at BP organised a walk after she died in October 2006 but we plan to make the Mad March Hare and annual event.”
The cute, cheeky logo designed to promote the Mad March Hare is capturing a lot of interest said Wiltshire branch chairwoman Shirley Garman. "We're absolutely delighted with the hare logo designed by Mike Grey of Juggle Design at Basepoint Business Centre.
“People have seen it in The Link magazine and on our leaflets and have been saying they’re going to take part. They like the cheeky knowing look of the hare; it’s bringing out a lot of enthusiasm to support Breakthough.”
Mike Grey, who works with his daughter Jainie at Juggle, said, “I wanted to get away from a corporate look and create a fun, friendly character that people would warm to. I’m really glad the logo is getting a good response.”
