Swindon's Wyvern Theatre are sending letters to the 300 youngsters who turned up for auditions for this year's summer youth musical on 11 May to let them know whether they've made it as a member of Fagin's gang or as a street vendor alongside Nancy.
It's clear that, as Oliver! opens in the West End and on BBC television, these ambitious young performers are set to show that Swindon does things better.
At the auditions youngsters proved they really would do anything to become Swindon's Nancy or Oliver as they arrived from 8am, with the favourites for the lead roles staying well into the evening. The young people were put through their paces as they were asked to learn a routine and sing Consider Yourself more times than they could remember.
Director Rodney Howard justified the gruelling day by the sheer level of talent on display in the auditions. "This is the hardest I've ever found it to cast for principal male characters."
The Wyvern is also on the look out for a performing pooch to play Bill Sykes' dog, Bullseye the Bull Terrier. If your dog gets on with children and can obey basic commands it could be a star in the making. Auditions will take place on Tuesday 3 June at 5pm, so bring your furry friend along! Oliver! Will be showing at the Wyvern from Thursday 21 – Sunday 24 August. Tickets cost £14 – £16.
