A diet of cheese and more cheese qualified Vicki Zukiewicz from Abbey Meads to appear in the BBC3 series Freaky Eaters on 24 February, 8pm.
The programme investigated her obsession with cheese and sent her to a Harley Street specialist to discuss her food intake, which at 65 kilos of saturated fat a year is about five times the average intake. She was encouraged to try different foods, with limited results, and filmed cooking a meal in a homeless shelter.
“They took me and my husband to Paris for a day for the famous French gastronomique experience,” said Vicky. “I thought it was going to be a romantic dinner in a fancy restaurant, but we were taken to a packed brasserie which the French obviously enjoyed. I couldn’t stand the food.”
Vicki said that the specialists thought her childhood resistance to parental demands to eat everything probably developed into her food phobia and the Harley Street doctor said she could have a heart attack in ten years. However, at 32 years old, Vicki says she’s fit and because she has worked in the health and wellness industry for many years, she is gaining nutrients from pill supplements and juice smoothies.
“I know it’s ironic to be able to advise people about weight loss and weight gain and give nutritional advice, whilst not being able to eat meat, vegetables and pulses myself, but I’ve managed to survive and help a lot of clients with their wellness needs.”
