From Bel Canto to The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared and 94 books in between, reading books and sharing ideas is just as important as ever, writes Tracey Dowling who coordinates the West reading group based at West Swindon Library.
The group had its first meeting in July 2003, and has continued to meet ten times a year since then. We always have a break in August so choose a big book to keep us going over the summer.
We select from reviews, recommendations and word of mouth. We don’t always agree on what we like but we love a good discussion. Readers’ groups are a great way to discover new authors and share a love of reading.
Swindon Libraries run 16 groups in libraries and also support independent groups to run their own meetings in other locations.
If you would like to set up your own group and want to know how, Swindon Libraries can help you get started.
