Violin teacher Helen Goode from Grange Park, who works as Helen Godfrey, is taking on a radical new look for a good cause when she has her long hair completely cut off in aid of Cancer Research UK on Saturday 31 May.
The deed will be done at 10.30am in The Cutting Bar at the West Swindon Centre and she hopes as many people as possible will come along to support her.
Helen said: "I’m doing this because I can make the decision myself – for many people this is not the case, and losing their hair can be a traumatic part of chemotherapy.
"I’ve lost friends and family members over the years to cancer, and I’d like to do something extra to help this year. Everyone else can enjoy seeing me looking very strange without hair, but hopefully we can raise money to help beat cancer in the future."
Helen will be boosting her fundraising by taking part in the Cancer Research Race for Life at Lydiard Park the following day.
Once cut off Helen will be putting her hair to good use by donating it to the Little Princess Trust, which makes free wigs for children following hair loss.
