A meeting between Mat Monet of the Wiltshire Mercy Appeal and Janhangir Malik from the charity Islamic Relief has had a positive outcome.
Islamic Relief has agreed to distribute 400 pallets of men?s, women?s and children?s clothes and 100,000 litres of water to the disaster area. This charity specialises in disaster response and has been active in past disaster areas.
Wiltshire Mercy Appeal has arranged for 60 to 80 pallets of supplies to be transported to Birmingham. Air Lanka and Indonesian Airways will fly the aid out east in the week beginning 17 January.
Jacky Smith, secretary of the Wiltshire Mercy Appeal said that Feed The Children, an international charity with offices in Reading and Bristol, has agreed to take 14 pallets of cookware, 34 pallets of tinned and packet food, 3 pallets of hand tools, 4 pallets of towels. These donations will be distributed in Indonesia and Angola.
Both charities commentted on the excellent quality of all the goods donated by the people of Wiltshire and the manner in which they have been sorted, packed and made ready for trans-shipment to the areas of need.
The Wiltshire Mercy Appeal is a new relief organisations formed rapidly after the Asian Earthquake and Tsunami on 26 December.
