Defying the recent rain over 230 ladies jumped on their bikes on Sunday 24 June for a 40km or 75km bike ride in the stunning setting of Lydiard Park. Wiltshire is the second in the 2012 Cycletta series, the UK’s leading women-only cycling events. Many of the women were fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support, the official charity partner of Cycletta, with tens of thousands being raised by this event alone.
Ian Lulham, Cycling Events Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, was delighted with the support for Macmillan: ‘We would like to thank all the Team Macmillan riders that took part in Cycletta Wiltshire at Lydiard Park and raised funds to support our vital work. It was another great event and we are looking forward to rest of the series.’
Heidi, who took part herself and raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support, said,‘What a fantastic day! I was full of nerves but the organisers put my anxiety to rest and the other girls were all so supportive of each other. My chain came off but a steward was on hand to help immediately so I felt safe and reassured and got on my way again – straight to a treat stop to keep my strength up! The buzz from completing was fantastic – when’s the next one?!’
It couldn’t have been a more perfect day; the rain held off and the atmosphere in the Cycletta Village was buzzing. The ladies started and ended their route by cycling through Lydiard Park and then around the beautiful quiet country lanes. Some were challenging their personal bests and others were back on their bikes for the first time in years. All made it over the finish line, and the fun didn’t stop there, with free massages, mini manicures and helmet hair rescue on offer at the Pamper Zone in the Cycletta Village, for all participants.
Victoria Harris, mum of 2 from Royal Wootton Bassett, who had never entered a Cycletta event before said, “It was an absolutely brilliant day. I never thought it would be so much fun. You felt totally safe on the route with masses of support from the organisers, the atmosphere with all the girls was amazing, everyone cheering each other on. The Pamper Zone at the end just topped it all off. I feel totally inspired to enter another Cycletta!”
Jo Dytch from event organisers Human Race said, “We are delighted with the success of Cycletta Wiltshire, it was a great place to continue the series of seven events in 2012. The rain held off and the sun greeted the ladies as they finished. A combination of a stunning route and the accommodating host venue of Lydiard Park, ensured we had plenty of happy women crossing the finish line. We are looking forward to our next Cycletta in Cornwall on September 15th”.
The seven event series heads to St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall on September 15 before visiting Warwickshire, Brighton, Cheshire and New Forest before the year is up.
Entries for all Cycletta 2012 events are open as well as Cycletta Bedfordshire 2013 where a special early bird discount is available.
