Prospect Hospice wants women from across the region to show their support by signing up for its flagship fundraising event, the Starlight Walk 2010, which takes place on 26 June.
Now in its third year, the Starlight Walk last year raised £65,000 for Prospect, and has previously brought together more than 600 women, many taking part in memory of loved ones. The charity’s fundraising team is optimistic that participant numbers will be even higher this summer. “There’s a real sense that we can push on from where we were last year,” says Prospect’s head of fundraising Sheryl Crouch, “and perhaps get closer to the 1000+ participant numbers many hospices achieve at their events.”
The event, which this year offers both a 10k and a 15k option, mixes a girls’ night out, a physical challenge and, for some, a time for reflection. It sets off from Swindon’s New College campus and heads out across cycle paths and walkways. It’s a ladies’ nightwalk (although last year’s participants included a handful of dolled-up men!), but Prospect is also looking for men to support on the night as volunteer marshals along the route.
Prospect, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is again benefitting from the sponsorship of Nationwide, with the building society lending their name as headline sponsors for the biggest local-charity mass participation event of the year.
To take part in Prospect’s Starlight Walk either call 01793 815142 or visit www.prospect-hospice.net/starlight to register. Participants are asked to aim for a sponsorship target of £100 each.
