A vigil of words, music and reflection on Sunday 3 August, 7pm, the eve of the declaration of the First World War at St Augustine’s Church, Summers Street.
Throughout the service, there will be a time to reflect through words, music and silence on words, both traditional and contemporary.
Throughout the vigil, as candles are extinguished, there will be reflection on the words of Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey on 3 August 1914: “The lamps are going out all over Europe.”
The vigil is based on liturgy to be used at a national vigil being held at Westminster Abbey on 4 August 2014.
