Creating Memorable Characters – a one-day writing workshop
Thursday 11 April 2013 10am to 4pm at Chiseldon, Wiltshire (3mins from J15 of M4)
Remember Miss Havisham – Hercule Poirot – Rebecca – Gandalf – Inspector Morse – Captain Ahab – Lisbeth Salander – Jay Gatsby ?
Every novel needs a plot but it’s the characters that bring it to life. This workshop will demonstrate how you can avoid cardboard stereotypes and create three dimensional characters with all the quirks, strengths and weaknesses, faults and flaws of real people.
How to construct a ‘curriculum vitae’ for each of your main characters
How to avoid long boring descriptions
How to use dialogue and action to reveal your characters’ personalities
How to create feisty heroines, likeable villains, idiosyncratic background characters
How to make your readers care what happens to them!
Joy Wodhams, as above.
The fee for each workshop is £30, which includes a buffet lunch and tea/coffeebreaks.
