Join us as we celebrate our 40th Birthday with a fun, family-orientated and unmissable Open Day.
The Wyvern Theatre first opened its doors in September 1971 and it’s still as strong as ever.
As part of the fun Open Day there will be face painting, children’s activities, performances from local societies and a chance for you to tell us about your memories of the Wyvern Theatre.

There wil also be archival images, programmes and information will be on display in the theatre, as well as backstage tours where you will be able to view the dressing rooms used by the stars and have your moment on stage! Tours run from 11am to 3pm at a cost of £1 per person.
To mark our annivsary we are also celebrating by announcing two exciting online developments. In line with other HQ Theatre venues, the Wyvern’s website has been transformed to allow audiences the opportunity to select their own seat making online booking smoother and easier. Alongside this fantastic advancement, The Wyvern Theatre are also thrilled to introduce online audiences to their comedy leaflet Don’t Laugh on an Empty Stomach. On Saturday 3 September, customers will be able to browse through, and share amongst friends, a leaflet which features embedded YouTube videos of their favourite comedians enabling audiences to catch a glimpse of the performance they’re booking.
The leaflet is inspired by the Theatre’s dedicated hospitality team, who have created a Hellfire Comedy Curry Package, sponsored by Cobra premium beer. Prior to various comedians’ performances, audiences will now be able to enjoy an Indian buffet which will include a selection of authentic curries, poppadoms, pilau rice, warm naan bread and a refreshing cobra beer.
“We want to encourage our audience to interact with us as much as possible – by improving our online facilities, we hope to provide world class service 24 hours a day, whether in person, over the phone or online,” explains Richard Loftus, Marketing Manager.
